ABOUT ABOUT

Small town cook Frank Bumpo is dead, and Frank's Pasta is now the responsibility of Frank's ambitious son Tyler, a recent graduate of Indianapolis’ famed Unos Dos Tres! cooking school. Along with a good old boy waiter, a schmoozy piano man, and the saddest bus boy in the world, Tyler sets out to expand his hometown’s culinary horizon by revamping Frank’s Pasta as Frank’s Tapas.

In the wake of his father’s death, Frank’s prodigal son Remy Bumpo returns from his travels to find his brother lacing the ceviche with confounding amounts of yarchagumba, a powerful aphrodisiac that Frank only ever dared use in tasteful moderation. Appalled, Remy is determined to protect his father’s humble legacy. But when Tyler’s old flame from cooking school and her stodgy opthalmologist husband reserve a table for Frank’s Tapas on opening night, Tyler’s lustful demons tempt him to make his small plates even stronger. Will Tyler save his hometown from a boring palate – or unleash an insatiable desire for more?

The Groundswell Players are thrilled to debut their second creation, Little Plates, Big Tapas, after their 2010 Philly Fringe show, How to Solve a Bear, called a “Fest Bet” by Citypaper. Little Plates, Big Tapas is an original work combining the playfulness and spontaneity of improv comedy with the focused exploration of a written drama. The Groundswell Players’ second production features the entire Leo Callahan comedy improv team, taking full advantage of its many talents, including jazz and classical piano.
